What is LEVITRA?

Levitra is a trade name for the PDE-5 inhibitor vardenafil, a Bayer product. LEVITRA’s little round shaped, orange coated tablets are swallowed in doses of 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg. As it does not increase the desire for sex, like an aphrodisiac, sexual excitement is need in order to gain a natural response to LEVITRA. Post prostate cancer surgery related erectile dysfunction has had a high success rate of treatment with LEVITRA.

How Does LEVITRA Work?

LEVITRA helps to relax the smooth muscles in the penis, in effect increasing the blood flow, by blocking the phosphiesterase-5 enzyme (PDE-5), just like Viagra.

How Well Does Levitra (Vardenafil) Work?

The results of a 580 person test showed that LEVITRA successfully made improvements on the erectile dysfunction in 76% of the volunteers.

What is the Normal Dose of LEVITRA (Vardenafil)?

A doctor will determine the personal dosage for each individual patient based upon medical examination. Dosage comes in strength of 20 mg, 10 mg, and 5 mg.

Some men gain the capability to form an erection 15 mins after an oral dose of LEVITRA, but LEVITRA usually begins working after 25-60 mins. Sexual arousal, within 5 hours of taking a LEVITRA tablet should lead to an erect penis.

Other than eatting a fatty meal of 57% fat content or more and drinking alcohol, eating and drinking does not inhibit the effectiveness of LEVITRA. Normal eating habits can be observed prior to taking LEVITRA.

Avoid taking more than one dose of LEVITRA per day.

Are There Any Side Effects Associated with LEVITRA?

Side effects most commonly associated with LEVITRA are facial flushing, headaches, mild indigestion, and nasal congestion after a worldwide clinical trial involving over 3,750 men.

Who Cannot Take LEVITRA?

If you are taking nitrate-based medications, you should avoid the use of LEVITRA. Nitrate medications are usually used to relieve chest pains, also known as angina. Lower blood pressure leading to intensely unfavorable effects on health is usually the result of mixing nitrates with LEVITRA. If your are taking any nitrates, or if you are not sure if you are, you should let your doctor know.

If you:

  • Are aware of any hypersensitivity to any of LEVITRA’s ingredients
  • Have cardiac disease to a level making sex dangerous
  • Have had a heart attack, stroke, or low blood pressure recently
  • Have sex related or unstable angina
  • Are over 75 years in age and on indinavir, ritonavir, ketoconazole, or itraconazole (orally)

Avoid mixing LEVITRA and other treatments for erectile dysfunction.

What Conditions May Prevent a Man Using LEVITRA

Patients should be careful using LEVITRA if:

  • Their penis is unusually formed
  • They have had postural hypotension in the past
  • They have diseases like multiple myeloma, sickle cell anemia, or leukemia (these diseases can lead to an uncomfortably extended period of erection).
  • They posses a serious liver/kidney disorder

Can Women Take LEVITRA?

LEVITRA has yet to be licensed for distribution to women nor has its safety been tested in women. Women should avoid using LEVITRA.

What Happens if I Increase the Dose?

A medical supervisor should approve and observe any increases in dosage. Increasing dosage past the advised maximum of 20 mg has only been seen to increase side effects and not make the drug more effective, according to clinical study.

Can I Drive While Taking LEVITRA?

Patients should be aware of their reaction to LEVITRA prior to attempting to operate a vehicle or machinery. LEVITRA has been reported to cause dizziness during clinical trials.

Will it Work for Everyone?

Inform your doctor if LEVITRA does not aid you in getting an erect penis or if your erection does not occur long enough to complete sexual relations. The doctor will advise you on whether upping you dosage can help you.

The doctor should also be able to enlighten you on alternative treatments.
